The Service Party leader Mwangi Kiunjuri has proposed that the money that had been earmarked to finance the BBI be spent in feeding people affected by hunger across the country.

Kiunjuri was speaking in Embu when he hosted a group of The Service Party members from 19 counties who are aspiring for different positions in the next year’s general election.

He said the country is faced with different challenging situations and Kenyans should get to the best from the government.

Kiunjuri was sacked as Agriculture CS in January 2020 when about 2.6 million Kenyans had no food and were relying on donations, according to Usaid.

Currently, about 1.4 million Kenyans are facing a food crisis, says the USAID-led Famine Early Warning Systems Network.

Kiunjuri said the government should allow Kenyans access to the Covid-19 vaccine, affordable healthcare and raise citizens’ standards of living to match the rising cost of living.

“We call upon the government to immediately reallocate funds that had been set aside for BBI to feeding programmes, vaccination and safety net programmes,” he said.

The former CS said his party represents the people of Mt Kenya and will push for a stake in the next government.

“We met with other parties including Martha Karua's Narc Kenya and Chama Cha Kazi led by Moses Kuria and agreed to compile a list of what our people want in terms of development. This is what those seeking votes from Mt Kenya must show they are able to deliver before getting the region's support. My party has already done that and everybody who needs our support understands what is required of him or her,” he said.

TSP listed eight agenda and irreducible minimums for any like-minded parties to capitalise on and among them equitable sharing of resources, right to own property of her people, more resources in the agriculture sector, access to affordable loans for SMEs, Universal Health Care, Pesa mashinani and prudent use of public resources.

The party also unveiled new aspirants for different positions.

Kiunjuri said as a party leader, his aim is to ensure the people of Mt Kenya benefit fully from the next government, unlike the current one which has barely considered the area.
