Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is working together with Gideon Moi, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang'ula on a coalition to form the next government.

The leaders on Tuesday said in Machakos they were collaborating to ensure they jointly form the government after next year's general election.

They will use the three by-elections in Machakos, Matungu and Kabuchai as litmus tests ahead of the 2022 General Election.

ANC, Ford Kenya and Wiper have agreed to support each other in Matungu, Kabuchai and Machakos by-elections respectively.

The three seats were left vacant following the deaths of lawmakers Justus Murunga (Matungu, ANC), James Lusweti (Kabuchai, Ford-K) and Machakos Senator Boniface Kabaka (Chama Cha Uzalendo).

“We have come here today with these three brothers, Mudavadi, Kalonzo and Moi. Our being here is a big statement. We have come here with our brother Kalonzo, he is our good friend and we respect him,” Wetang'ula said.

He spoke at Mulu Mutisya Gardens in Machakos town where the leaders held a public rally to drum up support for Wiper senatorial candidate Agnes Kavindu.

“I knew this woman (Kavindu) when she was in the BBI committee; she was asking tough questions. I realised that she has a sharp mind," Wetang'ula said.

The Ford Kenya boss said they had agreed that only Wiper party would field a candidate in the Machakos senatorial by-election.

“We have three upcoming by-elections in Machakos, Matungu and Kabuchai. We agreed and ANC, Wiper and Kanu haven’t fielded candidates in Kabuchai which is my political home turf. Ford Kenya, Wiper and Kanu have also not fielded candidates in Matungu which is Mudavadi’s political base,” Wetang'ula said.

He urged Machakos residents not to embarrass Kalonzo and vote for Kavindu as their next senator in the by-election scheduled for March 18.

“I urge Machakos residents not to embarrass the Ukambani kingpin; you will make Kalonzo more attractive to leaders from other counties by electing Kavindu,” Wetang'ula said.

“We are walking together on this journey to unite Kenyans to ensure that nobody is deprived, nobody runs away with our country. We supported Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior and he won with a landslide.”

“Kavindu is hard working, will protect the home, our money and she is also beautiful. If you get to the ballot on March 18, think of 2022 General Election. Know that as a Kamba community, you won’t be in opposition, you will be in government.”

Senator Moi said he was in support of all that Wetang'ula had said.

“Kavindu has all that it takes to be a leader. She is a pastor, not a cheat, speaks the truth, and not a thief,” Moi said.

The Kanu boss said they were in solidarity with Kalonzo. He urged Machakos voters to turn out in large numbers on March 18 to cast their ballots for Kavindu.

Mudavadi said they will unite until they ensure the country doesn’t go to the hands of cartels.

“Kavindu will open the way as supported by Kalonzo. Her victory will have a direct bearing on the 2022 polls, the reason we are here to show the seriousness of the matter. We haven’t fielded any candidates here,” Mudavadi said.

He added, “I want all Machakos voters to stand with Kalonzo and vote for Kavindu. We want all votes in one (Kavindu’s) basket. We have come to show solidarity with Kalonzo. We have walked a long journey and we want to go far as brothers.”

Mudavadi said ANC, Kanu, Ford Kenya and Jubilee have not fielded candidates in the Machakos senatorial by-election because they support Kalonzo.

“Kavindu has proved that she is a leader. Politics of thievery, let them bring it on. We will tell the country the truth and the naked truth,” he said.

Kalonzo cautioned Machakos county IEBC returning officer Joyce Wamalwa against hiring county government employees to man the by-election.

“Hatutaki kusikia mfanyi kazi wa county akiitisha kazi ya upigiaji kura Machakos kama clerks wa IEBC. (We don't want to hear county employees seeking to man the elections as IEBC clerks),” he said.

The Wiper leader said they support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration hinting that the Head of State would soon visit Ukambani region to launch and inspect several projects.

“President Uhuru will soon come to Ukambani to commission Thwake Dam, Kibwezi – Kitui – Meru roads, and inspect the ongoing Konza City project,” Kalonzo said.

Eleven aspirants have been cleared by IEBC to contest in the by-election.
