Mombasa residents can expect enhanced services after their County Government secures an additional revenue stream tied to services it shall offer at the Port.

This follows the signing into law of the Mombasa County Solid Waste Management (Amendment) Bill 2023.

Governor Abdulswamad Sherrif Nasir signed the law in a ceremony attended by the County Assembly Committee on Environment led by Majority Leader Athman Mwamiri.

The new law will provide a framework for the County Government to offload waste from ships calling at the port of Kilindini in line with the provisions of Schedule IV of the Constitution which places the responsibility for waste management squarely on the shoulders of the counties.

“This marks the beginning of a long overdue chapter for Mombasa. The revenue earned from the provision of these services will enable my government to upscale service delivery to residents,” said Nassir as he put pen to paper.
