Governor Gideon Mung’aro, Kilifi MPs and senators have made a declaration to work together to push for the region’s development agenda.

They made the resolution after a meeting that was convened at the governor’s office.

All Kilifi elected MPs were present.

They are Amina Mnyazi (Malindi), Kenga Mupe (Rabai), Kenneth Kazungu (Ganze), Paul Katana (Kaloleni), Owen Baya (Kilifi North), Harry Kombe (Magarini) and Senator Stewart Madzayo were present.

However, Kilifi Woman Representative Gertrude Mbeyu snubbed the meeting.

The leaders pledged to work together for the sake of prosperity and promised to back and advance the governor's agenda and support his vision while executing their mandate to the Kilifi people.

Addressing journalists after the closed-door meeting that lasted for more than three hours, the governor said key among the issues discussed was how they would be able to consolidate projects to avoid duplication.

“We do not want to see a scenario where an MP does the same projects as the county where funds will be spent on similar projects,” he said.

He said the meeting was also for consultations to see which the areas they need to work on and those that were doing better to ensure they move together.

Mung'aro said their meeting was a follow up of last week’s forum of all coastal leaders that aims at ensuring the region works together.

He said they are planning ahead of the second coastal leaders' meeting so as to table issues that affect the county.

Asked about the missing woman representative, the governor said he was not the right person to answer as everyone was invited.

“Even those who have come squeezed their time, they had requested the meeting to end by midday because everyone is busy, maybe she is held up somewhere but you can ask herself,” he said

He said they discussed both the El Niño rains and the national examinations scheduled for next month.

Mung’aro said in case of heavy rains there are areas which may not be accessible and could require a helicopter for the exams to be delivered.

“Its about preparedness to ensure our candidates get the examinations without difficulties even if it will be raining,” he said.

The county boss also said they agreed to coordinate on bursary allocation to enable the funds to be utilised well.

Kilifi North MP Baya, deputy Majority leader of the National Assembly and UDA member, thanked the governor for convening the leaders' meeting as it enabled them to discuss core issues affecting the county.

“We are happy that he called all of us regardless of the political party or affiliation, it is a good idea as leaders we shall succeed if we work together,” he said.
