At least 219,000 people in Kilifi county are hungry and need relief food urgently.
Reports indicate that more than 20,000 livestock have died as a result of the drought. There are fears the situation could get worse if it dows not rain in the next one month.
Kilifi Kenya Red Cross Society manager Cornel Ndombi said the drought situation is worsening by the day.
He said they hope it rains soon.
Water pans are drying up and the water levels in seasonal rivers have gone down.
“As Kenya Red Cross, we have partnered with our partners, including chiefs, and donors IFRC to give relief food to over 500 families in Magarini Bungale location. This is a small number compared to those who need relief food,” he said.
He said Ganze is leading, followed by Kaloleni, Magarini, Rabai, Malindi, Kilifi South, and Kilifi North.
Ndombi said in Magarini, more than 40,000 people urgently require relief food.
Countrywide, more than 3.1 million Kenyans have been affected by the drought and urgently require relief support.
