Lamu education stakeholders have developed a county action plan to address key areas that need harmonisation and collaboration.

Over 30 education stakeholders drawn from the county, education board, Ministry of Education, Teachers Service Commission and the Agha Khan Foundation took part in the exercise on Wednesday.

The workshop was sponsored by Aga Khan Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and TSC.

In a joint workshop held at the Lamu Vocational Training Centre, the stakeholders agreed on an action plan for harmonising education curriculum from pre-primary, primary, secondary and technical colleges.

They deliberated on a variety of issues that would allow for consolidation and harmonisation to lay a firm foundation for providing high-quality education in Lamu.

They aspire to make education in Lamu meet international standards of excellence.

Lamu county education chief officer Abdalla Ahmed said important harmonisation concerns include the implementation of sound management practices and accountability procedures.

He said the plan also looks into harmonisation of education programmes through collective consultative meetings, sports, common training, sharing resources and maintaining an updated TSC data bank on teacher registration at all levels.

“There is also need to build teachers' capacity to implement Competency Based Curriculum, teacher induction, mentorship and coaching, remote learning in public primary and secondary schools,” Ahmed said.

Ahmed detailed the county's roles and functions in ECDE and TVET, as well as the milestones and road maps covered for enhanced educational quality and accessibility for all.

He emphasised the significance of education harmonisation, describing it as a driver for improved performance and long-term development.
