Lamu man stabs friend to death over politics

A man in Lamu island stabbed his friend to death after the two differed over a political dialogue they were having.

Fadhil Abbas stabbed Eqriman Mbwana, 25, on the neck severally with a knife after they failed to agree on which MCA aspirant to vote for in the August polls.

The incident took place at Wiyoni area on Monday evening.

The victim died shortly after he was rushed to the King Fahad County Referral Hospital for treatment.

The suspect has since been arrested and detained at the Lamu central police station. He could face murder charges.

The incident has attracted condemnation from all corners with many urging residents, especially the youth to control their temperament during this election period.

Chief Jelle Farah urged the youth not to be misused by politicians and urged them to engage in more development ventures instead of politics.

“There are better ways to resolve misunderstandings instead of ruthless killings and fights. Let’s be lawful people,” Farah said.

Human rights activist, Ahmed Walid called on the government to take serious action against the suspect.

Walid also urged the youth be tolerant and respectful with other people’s political choices.

He said every Kenyan has the freedom and right to choose whoever they want as their leader.

“We need to learn to accommodate people’s choices of leaders even if we don’t share the same view because its their democratic right," Walid said.
