Davi Gitahi, attached to Taveta police station, shot a man identified as Esau Juma three times on the chest, killing him on the spot.

According to Taveta police boss Lawrence Maroa, Gitahi said Juma was among a gang that shot dead a Flying Squad officer in the area last week.

The Flying Squad officer, said to be from Mombasa, was pursuing a gun-brandishing gang caught on camera robbing a woman at gunpoint in Makupa two weeks ago.

Police identified Brighton Naiya, Mohammed Hassan, Chris Odhiambo, Evans Munywoki and Mutonyi Nzamba as the gang that was robbing the woman.

Police had widened investigations on the network of the gang in Taveta when a suspected gang member identified the Flying Squad officer and shot him dead.
