Chiefs should get guns and receive Karate training, Lamu East MP Shariff Athman has said.

He raised concerns about the rising number of attacks on chiefs.

Speaking on Sunday, Shariff said the Karate come in handy when the chiefs come across dangerous situations they are unprepared for.

“At least if they can’t be given police officers, then let the government facilitate them to be trained in Karate and other useful martial art skills so that they can atleast defend their lives from these criminals who trail them all over,”said Shariff.

Lamu county commissioner Joseph Kanyiri however said the MPs proposition was impossible and risky.

“we have over 3,500 chiefs and about 8,500 assistant chiefs. Allocating each chief a police officer is just imposible. We are doing our best to ensure chiefs and the general public are well guarded,”said Kanyiri.

On June 10 this year,Mbwajumwali location chief Mohamed Shee was attacked and slashed to death by unknown people as he headed to work.
