Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has warned Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho against referring to him as "an antelope".

Awiti said he is the region’s "undisputed political mafia and a lion".

During the Madaraka Day celebrations at Tononoka Grounds Joho said Awiti was a ‘kidikidiki’ a Swahili name for an antelope.

Joho said is a lion.

Awiti wants to unseat Joho as governor. Analysts say the remarks were a political strategy to belittle Awiti, who was the only candidate present during the Madaraka Day Celebrations.

As Joho was making the remark, Awiti who was sitting few seats from where Joho was standing while addressing remained calm and composed.

Awiti while speaking at Milele beach in Mombasa on Saturday said Joho will face it rough if he calls him an antelope again.

“The man [Joho] should not think he has won. In real sense, he is trotting on a path of failure. He is busy focusing on me, while he has failed to accomplish the projects he promised,” he said.
