There is a brewing fallout between Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya and Mombasa’s Hassan Joho.

On Saturday, Mvurya alleged Joho is plotting to unseat him by supporting other “weaker” candidates’ bid for Kwale’s top seat.

He spoke at Mwavumbo Secondary School during its prize-giving day.

Kinango MP Gonzi Rai and MCAs Anthony Lukuni and Anthony Yama were present.

Rai said, “We urge you to remain focused on serving Kwale residents. Those campaigning against you never supported your bid in 2013 and nothing much has changed. You have the ability to win.”

Mvurya said Joho supports Kwale speaker Sammy Ruwa for governor and former minister Chirau Mwakwere as his running mate “even though they are not strong candidates”.

Rai said he will assemble the Duruma community to reject Ruwa.

“There is no way we are going to go down the ladder by dropping Mvurya as governor and play second fiddle in Kwale politics. He deserves a second term,” he said.

Lukuni and Yama said Mwakwere has been meeting politicians from Kinango and Lunga Lunga constituencies in Dar es Salaam, where he serves as ambassador, to plot how to unseat Mvurya.

“We have politicians allied to some forces who are sponsored for visits to Dar es salaam where they plot to displace Mvurya but we will defeat them,” Yama said.

Mvurya said woman representative Zainab Chidzuga, Matuga MP Hassan Mwanyoha and Msambweni’s Suleiman Dori are also plotting his downfall.

“Dori is busy campaigning against me as are Mwanyoha and Chidzuga. But I will beat my competitors at the ballot,” he said.

Mvurya said Mwakwere failed to initiate projects for “the entire decade he was a minister”.
