CID director Ndegwa Muhoro has sent detectives to investigate claims of forgery, corruption and grabbing of disputed land in Kilifi county.

Genesis for Human Rights Commission programme director Caleb Ng’wena wrote to Muhoro on January 10.

He wants government officials and individuals linked to the 220 acres in Kanamai investigated.

The land was the subject of a violent confrontation between 526 squatters and private developers a few weeks ago when more than 300 houses were torched.

“We have questioned some suspects and we are moving on well,” said one of the six detectives who arrived in Kilifi last Friday.

The squatters have accused one of their own of failing to represent them during negotiations with the private developers.

“He joined hands with them and turned against us. He then sold some land to other individuals. These are the houses that were left when ours were torched,” a squatter who sought anonymity said on Wednesday.
