THE Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro could lose his position as chairperson of the Coast Parliamentary Group.

Two lawmakers have threatened to rally their colleagues in calling CPG elections to elect a new chair.

Kisauni MP Rashid Bedzimba and Mombasa women's representative Mishi Mboko on Saturday said Mung’aro has failed to execute his mandate.

They said Mung’aro is just an interim chairperson yet he has decalred himself the spokesperson of the entire region.

Bedzimba and Mboko said Mung’aro should stop positioning himself as the coast kingpin.

They were speaking in Mombasa during the flagging off of the Mtopanga Secondary school bus.

The bus was bought by the Kisauni CDF kitty.

The two MPs accused Mung'aro of openly supporting the Jubilee government and opposing initiatives launched by Coastal leaders including the economic bloc, Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani.

CPG is made up of all elected and nominated National Assembly members.

Mung’aro is the chair and Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu is the secretary general.

Bedzimba said: “Mung’aro has proven that he is a selfish leader who is using his current position to enrich himself.”

He said the Kilifi North MP has been openly opposing the Coastal leaders’ initiatives, yet he says he champions for the development of the region.

“He has on several occasions betrayed the coastal residents. He takes Sh200,000 and blindly sells his people to the oppressors,” Bedzimba said.

He said whenever Mung’aro stands to speak he says he represents the Mijikenda community.

“Good leaders do not talk about ethnicity, but the unity of all the coastal people. If he wants to be a leader of Mijikenda, let him become a Kaya elder,” Bedzimba said.

Mboko said Mung’aro has been supporting the national government's agendas despite the fact that he was elected on an ODM ticket.

The region has 33 MPs and majority of them were elected on Cord tickets.

Mung'aro was last year ousted as the National Assembly minority chief whip by ODM after he went against his party'S manifesto and openly declared support for Jubilee.

“He has proven that he is not capable of leading the coastal people. We cannot have someone who has double standards,” Mboko said.

“This is the reason he was kicked out of the minority chief whip position. We cannot have self-declared leaders who are only out to satisfy their needs,” she added.

Mung’aro could not be reached for a comment as calls made to him by the Star were picked by his aide who said Mung’aro was busy.
