Sh1.7m for Lamu CBOs to fight poverty, hunger

NINE community-based organisations in Faza Island, Lamu East have received Sh1.7 million to fight hunger and poverty. The donation came from the Ministry of Agriculture through ‘Njaa Marufuku Kenya’ campaigns.

Lamu East MP Ali Athman Sharif presided over the event at the Faza Social Hall on Saturday.

The nine groups are; Tupendane Women Group, Istiqama Faza Women Group, Tchundwa Focal Area Development Committee, Kifurushi Farmers SHG, Nusra Youth Group, Tuinuane Pate Adult Education Women Group, Amani Livestock Breeders, Irshad SHG and Pwani SHG.

Sharif said the campaign aims to combat hunger and poverty in areas with the highest poverty index in the country. He said poverty and hunger are the main challenges facing residents of Lamu East.

“Our government is committed to ensuring poverty is eradicated. Let us use such funds wisely,” Sharif said.
