5 hurt in Tana River fight over pasture

FIVE people have been injured in renewed clashes between two pastoralists group over pasture at Chifiri location in Tanariver county.

The two groups from the Orma and Somalis from Ijara, Garisa county clashed after one of the groups allegedly drove in their cattle herds into Tana River county.

Three victims are admitted to Hola subcounty hospital while the others were treated and discharged.

Ibrahim Salat, 23, Mohamed Noor, 50 and Hussein Nur, 22 sustained serious injuries.

Medical personnel at the hospital said two people have been referred to Malindi subcunty and Garisa County Hospital for specialised treatement.

The two heardsmen clashed at the Kormojila village a grazing field in Chifiri location, Galole constituency.

Sources said the remote area has no human settlements but acts as grazing grounds during drought.

Hola medical personnel who talked to the Star on the phone said the other survivors were in stable condition.

A source told the Star that more than 900 heads of cattle were stolen during the clash.

County commissioner Joseph Rotich said police have been dispatched to the area to quel tension.

He said the officers will also search for the stolen animals.

“Three of those injured are pastoralists from Ijara while the other two are locals from Tana River county,’’ he said.
