KINANGO MP Gonzi Rai has criticised Coast leaders who want to form a Coastal political party while they are vying for top ODM posts in the February 28 elections. Rai said although he is not against the idea, it will not go far because every leader wants to be the head.

He said it is a waste of time for the Coast people. Speaking at Ndohivyo primary school in Samburu Chengoni ward on Saturday, Rai even forming 40 parties will not help.

He said it is unfortunate that some leaders in the region are already positioning themselves to vie for big positions in ODM. “We concluded elections in March 4 last yeat and the most important thing is serving our people because we were looking for devolution and we have it,” Rai said.

He said Shirikisho party was formed as a Coast party but those who formed it left and joined other parties. Rai said the solution is to sort out weaknesses of the Coast region by agreeing with all the communities before forming one party.

“The issue cannot be addressed through public rallies, we need to sit and sort out our issues first. Many Coast leaders seek positions out of influence,” Rai said.

He called on the residents to support Coast leaders by respecting them. The idea of forming a Coast-based political party was arrived in Kilifi North constituency during the homecoming party for MP Gideon Mung’aro.
