A student who had earlier dropped out of school was allowed to sit for her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education Exams (KCPE) while pregnant.

This was revealed by Roselyn Litaba, Kiambu subcounty director of education, who said that the girl came back to school to sit for examinations even though she had dropped out.

"This morning we were informed that a girl who dropped out of a primary school has just appeared ready to do exams and is very pregnant. I gave directions that no one should be denied to sit for their exams as long as they have registered," Litaba said.

She said that there are cases of those who dropped out in the first term and have reappeared.

"We have been told to ensure that all of them do their exams. We have given directions to headteachers that any student who appears should be given their exams," she said.

She said that another student from another county hospitalized in one of the hospitals in Kiambu was also allowed to sit for their exams.

"Kiambu being near where the hospital is we have been informed of a case from another subcounty in the hospital so we had to administer the exam today to a student," She said.

She added that there are a few hardship cases within the centres and are attending to them which include the Kirigiti Girls rehabilitation centre as there are candidates there.

She said that the exams began well although they took a long time to give the papers out of because because of the way they are packed in cartons.

She said that there are 41 KCPE centres and 47 KEPSEA centres in the county.

"We arranged for transport using secondary school vehicles to enhance easy distribution of the exam papers," She said.

Titus Macharia Kiambu subcounty Deputy County Commissioner said that police have been deployed to all centres doing KCPE and KPSEA.

"In all the time exams have been conducted in the Kiambu subcounty, we have not had any hitches and we assure you that the exams will run smoothly," Macharia said.
