- The CS said students are being depended on to take over the role of running the country and destabilizing them is akin to destabilizing the future of the country.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has warned peddlers targeting learners that the full force of the law will be applied to deal with them.
The CS who spoke during a visit at Gatanga Girls High School in Murang’a on Friday said peddlers who sell drugs and induct learners into alcoholism are some of the greatest enemies of the country.
He said students are being depended on to take over the role of running the country and being responsible parents in future and that destabilizing them is akin to destabilizing the future of the country.
As such, Kindiki said his Ministry has instructed security officers to ensure they fight and eradicate alcoholism and drug abuse, especially in areas neighbouring schools.
“We want to make sure that learning institutions are secure from those who want to profit by destroying learners,” he said.
He said a huge number of learners have already been lured into drug abuse and alcoholism.
Such peddlers, he said, pose a major threat to the stability of the country and will be dealt with with the same intensity used to fight terrorism.
He said it is immoral for some people to make a killing out of selling drugs to learners noting that it is the responsibility of parents, society and the government to ensure students have a conducive learning environment.
"The government will use all its power and might to protect our children from such criminals who want to destroy a generation".
“Those are enemies of the country same as al-Shabab and bandits. You are destroying our children and country, and we will fight you with the same strength and vigour that we use to fight them."
Kindiki also urged secondary schools to ensure they have several sources of water including water pumped from rivers, piped water, water harvested from rain or even boreholes to ensure they don’t have disruptions of its supply.
He said the government will sink a borehole at the school before learners resume learning for the third term.
