There were songs and jubilation when four reformed alcoholics exchanged vows at Muthure ACK church in Kabete constituency in Kiambu county on Saturday.
The couples were among alcoholics who started Kanisa Madukani Reformers, without knowing what will happen.
One of the reformers John Waweru said that they started attending the church services as they stop drinking alcoholic drinks, dangerous brews and abusing substances such as drugs and bhang.
Residents from Muthure, Wangige, King'eero and Gitaru attended the jubilee wedding which they described as encouraging.
The move left over 20 reforming addicts getting saved and proclaiming Jesus Christ as their savior.
However, residents pledged to continue supporting the government in the war on illicit brews, dangerous alcoholic drinks as well as hard drugs.
Mt Kenya South ACK Rt Rev Canon Charles Muturi applauded the government for not disregarding any information passed to them regarding the war on these substances.
“We appreciate the ongoing war. We have seen the police and the administration responding very fast on reports passed to them regarding the rapid result initiative (RRI)” he said.
He urged the government to come up with a kitty where those reforming and leaving the drug abuse vice can be borrowing to start businesses.
Simon Mburu, a resident also requested the state to accommodate some of the reforming youths in some of the local youth polytechnics and technical institutes so that they acquire courses that can help them earn a living in the future.
“Some youths started abusing drugs after completing high school, and did not get an opportunity to join a college where they can get a course” he said.
“Given a chance, some youths can acquire courses that will help them secure a landing. You cannot tell them to stop abusing these substances and fail to show them where to go” Mburu added.
Mburu’s sentiments were supported by Muturi saying the move would keep the youth busy and would start a new life.
