There was a drama at the Nyambari trading centre in the Lari sub-county in Kiambu county on Friday after police raided a local bar.
A bar operator accused of locking some customers in the bar during the morning hours so that he can sell liquor to them was arrested during the operation.
Police arrived at the joint and upon knocking, the operator declined to open.
After police forced their entry into the bar, they stumbled upon many drunk men.
Area DCI boss Eunice Maingi said they had to use all tactics to open the pub.
She says they found the proprietor identified as Rose Wanjiku and her attendants selling alcoholic drinks at 6 am.
Maingi claimed the operator has been contravening the license regulations by locking the customers inside.
The DCI said the war on the illicit brew, drug abuse and bar operators who contravene licenses will not stop.
She thanked the members of the public and members of the multi-agency team for working hard to ensure they won the fight.
“We welcome all the intelligence and we are not disregarding any. We are investigating them with a lot of confidentiality. We are working day and night,” she said.
The detective also revealed that they have arrested an 18 -ears-old secondary school student with 500 grammes of bhang and a military uniform.
The DCI officer also noted that a lot of bar operators and drug peddlers have been arrested and taken to court.
At the same time, women in the area have lauded the police for working hard in the fight adding that men who abuse bhang, and alcoholic drinks have started avoiding basking in the trading centres.
Selina Wanja said they have noticed idle and youthful men have reduced in trading centres such as Nyambari, Kimende, Soko Mjinga, Kamae, Gichiengo, Kagwe, Kamburu and Kagaa.
While speaking to AIPCA bishop Mwangi Gichuki, she asked the cleric to pray for the police as they restore sanity.
The war was recommended by deputy president Rigathi Gachagua when he noted that the abuse of drugs and alcohol has caused a lot of damage to the major Mt Kenya region.
