Police in Murang’a county are investigating a case where a 14-year-old girl is suspected to have been impregnated by her stepfather in the Muruka area, Kandara sub-county.
The police visited the girl’s home in Gichengo village after locals protested following news that she had been molested by her stepfather.
According to a neighbour who sought anonymity, the man has been habitually molesting the girl who just cleared her primary education.
Her mother, the neighbour said, leaves for work at around 5.30 am in the morning leaving her last-born daughter with her father.
The stepfather is said to have molested the girl in the morning and threatened to kill her if she told anyone else about the ordeal.
“She has told us that it is her father who has been sleeping with her. Her sister recently took her to a health facility and confirmed that she is pregnant”.
“The girl does not know how old the pregnancy is. She says she cannot feel the baby move and as a mother, I suspect that the pregnancy is around four months. The child was so scared that she was even unable to confess to her sister who took her to the hospital”.
And this is not the first time that the man has allegedly committed the offence.
According to the neighbour, the man attempted to molest one of his elder daughters a few years back but she was able to run away and inform the neighbours.
The family has four boys and four girls.
The neighbours organized a demonstration and the man was arrested but was later released as the girl was forced to leave the home.
Area sub-county Police Commander Michael Mwaura confirmed that they are following up on the matter and have already recorded a statement from the girl.
“We understand that the father works in Ruiru and we have sent a team of officers to find him,” the police boss said.
