An 87-year-old woman was clobbered to death and her body set on fire at her home by unknown people in Koinange village, Nyandarua county.

The attackers made away with personal effects and electronics after killing Grace Wanja using blunt objects. The house was also partially destroyed by fire.

Her body was discovered in the morning by her grandson, who had come to assist her with chores.

The killing came barely a week after a 41-year-old man in the neighbouring village of Kwa-Soiro in Njabini hacked his 84-year-old mother to death before presenting himself to police.

In the latest incident, Jacob Wang'ombe, who had come to assist his grandmother said he found the house locked from outside.

He said he had to seek assistance from a neighbour to break into the house only to find the badly burnt body in one of the rooms.

“My grandmother was living alone and we don’t know the motive behind this heinous murder that saw the suspects escape with some goods and also burn the body,” he said on Tuesday.

A senior police officer confirmed the incident, saying the body had been collected and taken to Engineer Subcounty Hospital Mortuary.

“At the moment no arrest has been made but we are following some leads and it’s a matter of time before we catch up with those involved,”  the officer said.

Meanwhile, a flower farmworker was electrocuted at Kihoto estate in Naivasha after touching a naked electric wire.

The man was pronounced dead on arrival at Naivasha Subcounty Hospital following the incident on the estate that is home to hundreds of flower farmworkers.

Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru confirmed the incident, saying an inquest file had been opened following the Tuesday morning incident.

“We are investigating an incident in which a middle-aged man was electrocuted in unclear circumstances in Kihoto estate,” he said.
