Murang'a women who lost in the election have urged Governor Irungu Kang’ata to work with them to improve the lives of residents and fulfil his manifesto promises.
Group chairperson Julia Nyokabi Chege said on Tuesday that they will help the new administration prioritise economic empowerment and health matters for residents.
Chege, who was contesting for the Kangema MP seat, was accompanied by more than 30 women who had contested and lost in various elective positions.
“We urge Kang’ata and his deputy Stephen Mburu to bring us on board after the swearing-in because we all have a great vision for the people of Murang’a," Judy Makira, the group's secretary who was vying for the Kiharu MP seat on Usawa kwa Wote party ticket, said.
"By involving us, we will ensure we introduce programmes to uplift the lives of our youth.”
Makira, who lost to Ndindi Nyoro, said women leaders were brought together by a common goal of changing the status quo of residents and the most vulnerable in the agricultural-rich county.
Eva Njeri Mwenja, who was aspiring to be Mathioya MP, said they have elaborate plans to tackle health issues, especially cancer, that leaves the affected families financially strained.
“We also have youth who have for long indulged in drugs and our plan is to uplift them by introducing rehabilitation and empowerment programmes for them,” she said.
The women leaders further asked Kang’ata and his administration to prioritise improving the road network as well as investing in the education sector.
