Kirinyaga Woman Representative has urged Kirinyaga residents to support a presidential candidate whom they feel is best suited to lead the country.

Wangui Ngirici said she will not try to influence their decision as far as the most suitable presidential candidate is concerned.

Speaking on Saturday, Ngirici further said her sole project was to popularise her governorship bid as an independent candidate.

"You have the free will to choose whoever you want as your president. However, you should be careful with the regional leaders that you elect. My only mission is to plead with you to elect me as your third governor," she said.

"I have chosen to remain as an independent candidate and as such my ideologies are not attached to any of the political parties."

Her sentiments come three months after her dramatic fallout with the Deputy President's UDA party.

This led her to erase all UDA logos and colours that were painted on her Kerugoya private office, and acted as the party’s county headquarter office.

A spot check by the Star reveals that she has painted her portrait and her theme colours at the gate.

Speaking to Karumande residents in Gichugu, Wangui said she sacrificed a lot for the party but was later shortchanged.

"I can authoritatively say that I am the one who introduced the party here in Kirinyaga."

She said despite the betrayal, she has moved on as a wiser and a more focused leader.

"I chose to stick to my principles even after the party urged me to step down in favour of the current governor," the lawmaker said.

While promising to elevate the level of services under the devolved system, she said she has all along demonstrated loyalty and servant leadership to Kirinyaga people hence they should elect her.

She cautioned the residents to be wary of irresponsible leaders who hide behind party euphoria, but are less concerned with their needs.

"Be wise while electing your leaders. Assess all of us and choose an individual from amongst us and not parties."

She also pledged to work in harmony with all elected leaders in the county should she become Kirinyaga governor.

Ngirici further  joined various leaders in hailing the government for calling off the boda boda crackdown.

She advised boda boda riders across the county to follow the laid out traffic rules to avoid getting on the bad side of the law.

"Register yourselves into Saccos as you have been instructed. This will also enable us to empower you financially. Take advantage of the period you have been given and get the necessary licenses and insurance," she said.

The woman representative was accompanied by her husband Andrew Ngirici who promised to continue supporting his wife's political career.

"Despite what we went through in UDA I told her to roll her sleeves and get to the ground and talk to the people," he said.

"It was emotionally draining to be betrayed by the people we trusted and the party we put in a lot of hours and resources to market."
