Kiambu Governor James Nyoro has launched a family planning implementation plan to improve maternal and child health.
Nyoro on Tuesday commended the church in the region for collaborating with his government in uplifting residents’ living standards.
The governor spoke while presiding over the launch of the Family Planning Casted Implementation Plan 2022-2025 in his office.
The governor said the church through the Christian Health Association of Kenya and other players had played a key role towards ensuring a healthy population.
“Today is a great day for the future of Kiambu as we launch the Kiambu County Family Planning Casted Implementation Plan 2022-25.
"The plan seeks to improve maternal and child health and prioritise family planning while providing guidance and programmes for the sector,” the governor said.
Nyoro said family planning is an essential component of the county development agenda, taking cognisance that unplanned population growth may result in constrained resources, poor services and financial strain at the family level.
“I am glad the church through CHAK has been part of this and we know the collaboration with other key players will ensure harmonised sectoral efforts to achieve the desired well-being of the people,” he said.
The county boss said his administration targets to install dialysis equipment in health facilities across the county from January 2022. It also aims to set up the first cancer center in the region.
“These facilities will go a long way in easing travel challenges for patients as they will access medical services from nearer their homes,” he said.
The attendees were also addressed by the Health executive Joseph Murega and the CHAK general secretary Samuel Mwenda.
Community health volunteers who have played a great role in reaching out to the people at the village level also attended the function.
