Gains made by Deputy President William Ruto in Mt Kenya for the last four years will be reversed when Jubilee starts campaigning.

Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri said Ruto is popular because he has been campaigning as President Uhuru Kenyatta and the party concentrated on service delivery.

Wambugu said when the campaign starts, Jubilee will rightfully claim all its achievements since it took over government.

The achievements include electricity connection, construction of roads, processing and issuance of title deeds, improvement of healthcare services and keeping the country going amid Covid-19 among others.

The MP said the fact that many people attend Ruto’s rallies does not mean other contenders have no supporters.

Wambugu spoke at Gatitu shopping centre in Nyeri, where he issued bursary application forms.

The exercise will take a week and is expected to reach out to 12,000 applicants.

Two weeks ago when ODM leader Raila Odinga was in Nyeri, he said, his meetings were attended by thousands of people.

Wambugu said Ruto has been to Nyeri and other parts of the country many times where he has been campaigning and what he was doing during his weekend tour of Nyeri was not strange.

“He has been in full campaign mode,” he said.

Wambugu was responding to claims that Ruto’s visit over the weekend reversed gains made by Raila’s recent Nyeri visit.

“The DP has been campaigning for the last four years and I am not sure that his recent visit in Nyeri is any different from the visits he made in the past,” he said.

Ruto, Wambugu said, has not been saying anything new other than what he claims to have achieved as a member of Jubilee though he has not been working.

The MP said the Jubilee party will attend the Azimio la Umoja convention as observers because Odinga is a handshake partner to Uhuru.

The event will be held on Friday at the Moi International Stadium, Kasarani.

“Jubilee MPs have attended National Delegates Conferences for the One Kenya Alliance because they are in a good working relationship,” he said.

“We want to hear what the former Prime Minister will offer.”

Wambugu said they were making arrangements for their NDC which will be called by the President and expect it to happen before Christmas or the first week of January.

He said Jubilee came up with a lot of legacy projects that people who have been fighting it are associating themselves with.

“Jubilee’s primary focus is to ensure that whoever takes over the next government must be somebody who is committed to continue with the legacy,” the MP said.

“President Kenyatta will continue being the party leader even when he retires.”

He accused Ruto of raiding Jubilee’s strongholds to sabotage, undermine and kill the party and it will be difficult for Jubilee to work with such a person.

However, he said, Jubilee is strong and the people who have been fighting it would have left.
