Kirinyaga MCAs led by Governor Anne Waiguru have said they will not be intimidated following their decision to support DP William Ruto’s presidential bid through the UDA party.

The MCAs praised the party for rising to become one of the few popular parties befitting national status, saying it should be treated with honour.

Speaking on Wednesday in Gichugu, Waiguru said the party has already won the hearts of many across the country including Mt Kenya residents who are behind Ruto’s leadership.

She said the region identifies and subscribes to the party’s ideology of a bottom-up economic model.

“The party has strong support. We want more citizens to come on board and continue strengthening it because we are optimistic it shall form the next government,” Waiguru said.

“Many Kenyans support the party’s manifesto of empowering those at the bottom economic class time has come for the ordinary wananchi to rise from the chains of poverty,”

Waiguru praised Ruto for his aggressiveness in scaling the mountain which in turn has shown a positive response towards his 2022 presidential bid.

Her sentiments come a day after a section of  Mt Kenya parliamentarians affiliated with the Jubilee party accused Ruto of making reckless statements directed to the region’s leaders.

The lawmakers said his attacks disguised as jest was a reflection of the contempt he has for the region and its people.

They said his utterances could jeopardize the security of the nation as it gears up for the 2022 general elections.

Waiguru was optimistic about being re-elected as governor for her remarkable track record.

Campaigning under the slogan “Let development record speak for itself” the county chief was confident that the residents will not let her down.

“Since I joined the political camp you requested me to, I hope you will accord me another chance to serve you as I have demonstrated my competence over the past five years,” she said.

Waiguru is expected to battle it out with woman representative Wangui Ngirici in the UDA nominations.

The woman rep has promised her a humiliating political defeat.

Ngirici, in her latest event, said she is not afraid to face Waiguru since she has established considerable support on the ground.

The MP who has expressed interest in unseating Waiguru said she has all acted as a role model by leading from the front and making key radical decisions for the well-being of the residents and the country at large.

Their support towards the party and the deputy president comes at a time Ruto is expected to visit the county late this month.
