Kiambu ODM branch has embarked on vigorous popularisation of their party leader Raila Odinga's presidential bid in the 2022 general election.

The branch called on youths and women to register as members as well as voters.

Kiambu subcounty ODM chairman Jimmy Komo led his members in popularising their party leader and the party, calling on the youth to embrace change.

He said they should not be swayed by political outfits that have not benefitted them.

"In Kiambu, voters have been swayed to vote for six-piece-suit on political parties which are deemed to be popular," Komo said.

"It is time that voters embraced ODM and support Raila since we have been consistent and clear in our manifesto to change the country and improve the livelihoods of Kenyans."

Komo said that since there was apathy in voter registration they have been going round to convince the youths it is their right to vote for the government of their choice.

"Youths have the right to vote in for a government that will address the issue of unemployment, development and a government that advocates for their rights and to do so they need to register for voting."

He said his team has been talking to the youth who have attained the voting age and prevailing on them to register.

“If the youth do not participate fully in the elections then they will have no say over who becomes their leader,” Komo said.

According to the IEBC Kiambu subcounty tabulations of the one-month voter registration, about 4,000 new voters were registered.

The ODM officials said that they have put their house in order so that interested members with political ambitions in the county can get a platform to compete.

"We are optimistic that voters will not look at the parties but an individual and what they intend to do once elected and we have welcomed aspiring candidates to vie through the ODM party," Komo said.

Ndehi said women should be given a chance in leadership and ODM is giving that chance to those interested to run.

“It is high time women took up roles in the political arena. The Constitution advocates affirmative action where women are given a chance, though it has not been implemented. Women should embrace a party that is looking out for them,” Ndehi said.

Raila has said will declare his presidential bid 0n December 9.
