Respect ODM Mt Kenya officials, Wanjigi told

Office holders say party structures put in place should not be disregarded

• ODM party branches urged to stay solid and united, ready to follow the directions of their leader Raila Odinga.

• Wanjigi while in Nyeri last week, announced that he will for the presidency seat on an ODM party ticket.

Kiambu Orange Democratic Movement party officials have told off businessman Jimi Wanjigi not to try and open new offices or have new officials in Kiambu.

They said they have no problem with Wanjigi seeking to be nominated on an ODM ticket but he should respect party officials and offices already set up in the counties.

Speaking in Kiambu town on Monday, Charles Mbugua, the Kiambu secretary-general, said Wanjigi should have worked with current ODM officials.

“We would like to collaborate with him but he should follow procedures by the party,” Mbugua said.

He said the party has opened up for many seeking the presidency but one should not disregard that there are party structures in place.

Mbugua urged all ODM party branches to stay solid and united, ready to follow the directions of their leader Raila Odinga.

Mary Wangari, Kiambu ODM party women leader, said Wanjigi’s Nyeri meeting last week did not involve women and officials were not consulted.

“If Wanjigi wants ODM nomination, he must follow the right channel and involve women who have supported the party since inception and not use the back door,” Wangari said.

ODM party youth leader Stephen Kiruthi said Wanjigi is a life member of the party and is respected.

However, he said Wanjigi has worried party members by selecting new officials, office and he has started recruiting members in Mt Kenya contrary to the party procedure hence disregarding existing officials.

“While coming to Mt Kenya, he should go through the elected officials and established offices to avoid conflicts,” Kiruthi said.

Wanjigi, while in Nyeri last week, announced that he will seek the presidency on an ODM party ticket, saying he will popularise the party in the Mt Kenya region and open offices.

This ended speculations of the party he would use.

“I am confident of winning and I will make sure we open offices in the Mt Kenya region. We are going to make sure where it doesn’t exist it does,” he said.

“We are also going to begin a massive recruitment drive and we will paint the region Orange.”
