National Security committee chair Peter Mwathi has urged the government not to be deterred by politicians' statements regarding arresting anyone involved in graft.

Mwathi said the government will continue investigating corruption cases, warning that detectives will continue arresting those involved.

He spoke on Monday at Limuru town where he led his office to issue bursary cheques worth Sh31.9 million to needy 9,698 students.

University students received Sh6,500 each, boarding secondary schools and colleges received Sh4,500 each, while students from day secondary schools received Sh3,000 each.

Moreover, 10 students from different secondary schools were issued with Sh10,000 cheques from presidential bursary, totalling to Sh100,000.

Mwathi, the Limuru MP, said the government was not targeting anyone, but it was working hard to fight corruption and  protect public funds.

He asked legislators and politicians to stop politicising the process and alleging the government is targeting politicians owing to their political stand.

“This is not about politics or the by elections we witnessed mid this month. It is about corruption,” the MP said.

He added that detectives will continue to investigate, collect details, apprehend suspects and charge them in court.

Supporters of Deputy President William Ruto alleged they were being targeted because of the support they offered during the Kiambaa by election in which UDA's John Njuguna defeated Jubilee’s Kariri Njama.

“Let us not politicise these cases and let us avoid discussing matters that are in court. It is prejudicial” the MP said.

Last Friday, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua was arrested and arraigned in court on Monday facing corruption charges.

Mwathi asked residents to support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s war on corruption by giving ideas.

He asked locals to pray for the government since there is a lot of work it was doing for the country while campaigns for next year’s general election have already started.

The MP was accompanied by his NG-CDF committee members and Limuru assistant county commissioner Mary Njuguna.

Politicians present included former Ndeiya MCA Nelson Munga and MCA aspirants Paul Macharia (Limuru East), Karanja Muchai (Limuru Central) and David Kimani Limuru Central.

Meanwhile, Mwathi urged locals to protect and take care of their children since there was child trafficking and abduction going on in the country.

Njuguna asked locals to support chief and assistant chiefs who work so hard to ensure the government’s objectives are achieved.
