Politicians complaining about the war on corruption should be investigated, Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has said.

Wambugu on Friday that these said such politicians harbour information about the scandals being investigated.

“Why would you wake up and say you are being targeted, unless you know the investigation is going to end up where you are?” Wambugu said.

Last week, Deputy President William Ruto said the war on graft targeted him. He said it was ill-founded.

“There has been a lot of noise over two weeks about issues involving the Arror and Kimwarer dams, other corruption allegations, whether people are being targeted and whether it's a political witch-hunt," Wambugu said.

He said the National Assembly's Committee on Administration and National Security visited the DCI, who said investigations do not start with a person but with the problem.

He said the DCI said they have come across cases of forgery, fraud and obtaining money and misuse of public property. The DCI said they were following the cases.

The DCI told MPs that detectives do not know where the investigations would lead.

“I'm a bit concerned when I hear politicians say they are being targeted because then it means you know something,” Wambugu said.

He said the committee is 100 per cent sure the DCI will conduct efficient and professional investigations.

“So unless you are scared that the results will be you, then I do not know why people are making noise because the DCI has not mentioned anybody.”

Wambugu praised President Uhuru Kenyatta for stressing he will not stand in the way of investigations and prosecution of the corrupt. Uhuru said on Friday he will not protect close political allies, friends or family members.
