A lawmaker has accused the Tanga Tanga team of starting campaigns early ahead of the 2022 General Election.

Limuru MP Peter Mwathi condemned Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua for introducing his (Mwathi's) opponent at Stanley Kahahu PCEA Church as a leader the residents should vote for in the future.

Mwathi, who on Sunday hosted a group of MPs at Joy Celebration Church in Ngarariga in his constituency, said the Tanga Tanga team led by Deputy President William Ruto is dividing MPs.

On March 3, Gachagua attended a fundraiser at the PCEA Church and urged the worshippers to pray for the government in its fight against corruption.

The Tanga Tanga team has started campaigning at the wrong time. We are busy working on education, roads and other issues, but others are on our back to make names.

Gachagua, who was accompanied by Limuru politician Charles Kamau, said the government had embarked on the war on corruption and it was only church leaders and worshippers who could pray for the Jubilee government to succeed.

The MP, who served as a District Officer in Limuru, introduced Kamau as his friend.

Kamau, also known as Livondo, contested for the parliamentary seat but lost to Mwathi, taking position three.

Mwathi alleged that Gachagua had started campaigning for Kamau.

The legislator urged residents to ignore the campaigns, saying "this is time to serve, not for politics".
