Nyandarua speaker Wahome Ndegwa has urged governors from Central region to take their proposals for the formation of economic blocs to their respective county Assemblies to determine their viability.

The speaker yesterday said blocs formed in some parts of the country are "purely for the satisfaction of political interests" with little or no benefit to Wanjiku. Ndegwa said counties should only form a bloc if they have some common interests.

He commented in the assembly after a statement about a dramatic drop in milk prices.  The Committee on Trade, Cooperatives, Industrialisation and Enterprise Development had asked for his opinion. It is chaired by Githioro MCA Sambigi Mukuria,

The speaker said, "Some of these problems can be solved in economic blocs but this has not been achieved due to the political nature in which the blocs are formed."

Githioro MCA Sambigi Mukuria said unscrupulous milk vendors and processors have reduced farm gate prices in spite of the high cost of production and low supply caused by the prolonged drought.

Mukuria asked what the county is doing to ensure milk farmers get value for money.

Ndaragwa Central MCA Mwangi Maitai said milk prices are ruined by over-reliance on the same processors and the unregulated milk trade environment.
