Murang’a Senator-elect Irungu Kang’ata has urged elected leaders to end politics and start serving the people.

“Politics and campaigns are over. We must serve the electorate because that is what we have been tasked with,” he said on Tuesday during the swearing in of Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.

Kang’ata (pictured) also urged leaders who are serving their second terms to mentor those elected for the first time.

“We have to mentor our brothers and sisters so Kenya can grow as a nation leaving no areas behind,” he said.

Kang’ata praised Kirinyaga voters for electing Waiguru, one of the first three women governors. He said it is a political milestone.

“Our country has grown politically. I’m glad that, as a friend of Kirinyaga, I get to share in the glory of your being ranked as one of the first counties to accept women leaders as governors. It is a good precedent,” the legislator said.

Kang’ata trounced outgoing Senator Kembi Gitura in both the Jubilee primaries and the August 8 election.

He reaffirmed his commitment to Murang’a residents.

“We are assuring the people of Murang’a that we will serve as the oversight in the best way we can to ensure our county grows and no resources are misappropriated. We will also stand with the government of President Uhuru Kenyatta even stronger,” he said.
