Kiambu Governor William Kabogo was on Saturday picked as the interim chairman of the Kenya Alliance of Independent Candidates.
The meeting was held at Kasarani Sports Centre.
KAIC was unveiled by losers in the recent Jubilee Party primaries from Mt Kenya and Rift Valley.
Uasin Gishu governor aspirant Zedekiah Kiprono, alias Buzeki, was chosen as the vice-chairman. Tetu MP Ndung’u Gethenji was picked as the secretary general.
The aspirants unanimously endorsed President Uhuru Kenyatta as their preferred presidential flagbearer. Governors who attended the meeting included Kinuthia Mbugua (Nakuru), Joseph Ndathi (Kirinyaga) and Samuel Wamathai (Nyeri), with MPs Gethenji (Tetu) and Joseph Njoroge (Kasarani).
Also in attendance was Nairobi governor aspirant and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.
Kabogo said independent candidates are not jilted lovers as they are being described by their Jubilee opponents and they deserve respect and recognition. He dismissed pictures recently posted on social media showing him with ODM leader Raila Odinga and claiming that he had defected to NASA.
