President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto want more women to clinch political seats.
The two leaders want women to win four governor seats, five Senate and 25 House seats in Jubilee strongholds.
Women MPs who have launched the women-for-women campaign say Uhuru and Ruto are satisfied with women’s leadership.
They include Alice Wahome (Kandara), Mary Wambui (Othaya), Cecily Mbarire (Runyenjes), Joyce Laboso (Sotik), Ann Nyokabi (Thika), Peris Tobiko (Kajiado East), Rachel Shebesh (Nairobi) and nominated Senator Beatrice Elachi.
Nine MPs toured Ruiru where they were hosted by MP Esther Gathogo when she commissioned CDF projects.
Shebesh said Uhuru urged them to tour constituencies led by women to market the Jubilee Party.
“Jubilee is sincere and satisfied with women’s leadership. That is why Uhuru and Ruto sent us to drum up support for more women to rise to power. We are moving to Kajiado, Sotik, Thika and Runyenjes,” she said.
Shebesh said they will ensure women leaders retain their seats.
Meanwhile, Mbarire will try to unseat Embu Governor Martin Wambora and Laboso will face Bomet governor Isaac Rutto.
Former Devolution CS Anne Waiguru will face Joseph Ndathi for the Kirinyaga governor seat. Elachi urged Ruto to show his support for women’s leadership by naming a woman as his running mate in his 2022 presidential bid.
“Women are rising to power in developed countries like the US. I’m optimistic that the DP will pass the baton to a woman when he finishes his two terms,” she said. Mbarire said she will clinch Embu’s top job through prayers, adding that she is sure of the women’s support.
