Two families have been asked to move to safer ground after their farms were swept away by landslides in Kandara subcounty, Murang’a county.

County director of meteorology Paul Murage said the landslides occurred following heavy rains on Saturday and Sunday nights.

He said no casualties were reported, although more than 400 tea bushes were swept away in the two incidences in Mukuria and Rwathe villages.

Murage said

a family in Gitugi village, Kangema subcounty, has been advised to vacate their home as soon as possible after their house developed deep cracks.

“Their home has now been characterised by cracks that cut across their compound, showing that a landslide may occur at any time,” he said.

Murage said in Heho village, Kigumo, a storm uprooted trees and bananas that fell on houses of several families.

Residents were urged to cut trees near their houses.
