Kiambu law courts magistrate has dismissed allegations by a murder suspect's lawyer that the Star published a sensational story over Njenga Karume's grandson alleged murder case.

Stephen Kibunja is representing Kenneth Karume, who is accused of murdering Victoria Wairimu.

Kibunja told the court the story was prejudicial as it said Kenneth pushed his girlfriend from the balcony.

He requested that his client be accorded medical attention because he sustained injuries on the head and ears after the public beat him up.

Principal magistrate Justus Kituku said it was too early to determine media reports as investigations are ongoing.

He said the lawyer has the right to sue local dailies.

Kituku ordered the police to accord the suspect medical attention.

Investigating officer Kiongo Karima applied for 14 days to finalise investigations.

Kituku gave the investigating officer 10 days to complete his work.

Karume will be charged on April 11. He will remain in custody at the Kiambu police station.

Wairimu's mother Ruth Nyakio said she had not met Karume until he was brought to court.

"I have never met the man in person but I heard my daughter mention the name Ken. Since through our kikuyu tradition he has never come to ask to marry off my daughter, I assumed they were friends,"s she said.

Nyakio said when Wairimu visited Karume with her four-year-old son, the boy would tell her his mother was being slapped.

"Sometimes my grandson would come and tell me that Ken is a very bad person since he was slapping my mother," she said.

Nyakio said she does not know if Karume is the boy's father because she has been taking care of him.

She said her daughter was a hard working businesswoman and ived a Christian life since childhood.
