President Uhuru Kenyatta has told leaders to avoid ‘village politics’ hurting development projects.

Addressing Central leaders at the Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri county on Saturday, he said it is unfortunate some leaders engage in outdated politics to hurt development.

Some 2,000 leaders including MPs, governors and MCAs from Kiambu, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua and Murang’a counties attended the meeting.

Uhuru said the mega wind power project in Nyandarua stalled because leaders spread propaganda it would make women barren.

“Everything in this project was complete until politicians introduced politics. The project might now move to Machakos. Does it mean the women of Machakos will not give birth?” he said.

“I was in the Netherlands and I saw investors have those machines even on their rooftops.”

Uhuru also lashed out at leaders from Mwea, Kirinyaga county, for stalling a rice project over politics.

He said Japanese investors were ready to fund part of the project.

Kirinyaga and Nyeri governors were told to settle their differences immediately to ensure projects are completed.

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo urged Uhuru to build modern hospitals in every county.

He also said 150km of tarmacked road and piped water should be available in every household.

Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru, the chairman of Central Kenya Parliamentary Group, read the leaders’ wish list and urged Uhuru to issue an executive order to deal with illicit brews.

He said the illicit liquor has crept back to counties despite a crackdown last year.

Other issues raised include low prices for cash crops including tea, coffee and pyrethrum and poor infrastructure.

The leaders said stalled projects should be revived soon.

Uhuru said a task force will be formed soon to look into the issues raised.

A report will be prepared in two months and recommendations implemented.
