A Kirinyaga foundation has been launched to support First Lady Margaret Kenyatta’s Beyond Zero Campaign.

The Kirinyaga Health and Wholeness Foundation, a brain-child of Governor Joseph Ndathi’s wife Eunice, was launched in a Nairobi hotel on Saturday.

It aims to support the mobile clinic the First Lady is expected to deliver to the county soon.

Eunice has mobilised a group of prominent women from the county, including Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru and Brand Kenya CEO Mary Kimonye, to support the foundation.

Those who attended the function included Governor Ndathi, Senator Daniel Karaba and women’s representative Winnie Njuguna.

Eunice said she came up with the idea after it became apparent that most counties are not fully prepared to utilise the mobile clinic because it is equivalent to a level 4 hospital.

“Without a proper support system for the mobile clinic, it will not be possible to utilise it fully. This foundation will ensure the Beyond Zero Campaign is a complete success,” she said.

Ndathi said provision of quality health service remains his county government’s key priority.

He welcomed the foundation’s support and more partnerships.

“I’m very happy to be here and witness this launch, which is an initiative of women from Kirinyaga. It is a historic moment because Kirinyaga women have never met to discuss issues of interest to them,” Ndathi said.

He said the initiative to support the Beyond Zero Campaign is welcome because county governments are cash-strapped.

In the Beyond Zero Campaign, the First Lady plans to give an ambulance to every county to reduce maternal mortality rates.
