Activists have urged all Kenyans to help the government conserve the environment.

Green Africa Foundation chairman Dr Isaac Kalua said many fresh water river and lake sources in forests are threatened by the high rate of cutting down trees.

He said fresh air is threatened by poor drainage and air pollution.

Kalua was speaking at an ecological symposium in St Paul’s University Students’ Centre Hall in Limuru on Thursday.

He urged NGOs and Kenyans to join government efforts to plant trees and save water.

“If indigenous trees were planted, we would save the water sources,” Kalua said.

St Paul’s lecturer Joseph Wandera said the symposium was called to enlighten students on natural resources matters.

Green Belt Movement environmentalist Aisha Karanja urged wananchi to embrace recommended ways of disposing of waste.
