A maternity unit has been opened at Langata Dispensary in Ruiru, Kiambu county. The newly renovated dispensary has also been upgraded to a Level Three health facility.

The solar-powered dispensary with a 15-bed capacity was was refurbished by the county government and Phillips East Africa. Kiambu Governor William Kabogo said the maternity unit was opened to bring services closer to residents.

“Patients will no longer be referred to Ruiru Hospital which is far or incur further costs at private facilities to get their medical tests done. Mothers will now be able to deliver in a safe and secure environment,” he said.

“With the ultrasound machine, high-risk pregnancies will be identified early. This will reduce infant and maternal mortality.” The county government has hired additional medics, lab technicians, pharmacists and a sonographer to cater for more people.

Kabogo called on more private companies to support the public-private partnerships for development.
