Prime minister Raila Odinga has urged Central province residents to shun tribalism to ensure the country gets good leaders. He said Kenyans should break down the ethnic barriers and live as one Kenyan tribe, adding that Kenyans should unite and elect leaders based on their development agenda and not ethnicity.

Raila was speaking in Githunguri where he attended a requiem mass for ODM chairman Daniel Kago Mukore,73, who died of Kidney failure. "We need to go beyond the notion that this is mundu wa mucii ( one of our own) at this election time. Tribalism is the number one enemy of this country and we should therefore unite as Kenyans to defeat it," said Raila.

The PM said Kenyans should avoid a situation where the country is ruled by one community or tribe, adding that it is important that everyone is given a chance to vie for any seat without being discriminated against on ethnicity.

"Next year Kenya will be celebrating 50 years of Independence and this means that we are free from bondage, oppression and have freedom to democracy and this should be respected during the general election,"said Raila.

He assured that the election will be free and fair, adding that Kenyans should enter new era in which leaders should be judged on their policies for a better country. Raila eulogised Kago as a soldier who stood by the truth and was a great ODm leader in Githunguri. Mukore will be buried today at his Githunguri home.
