Security tight at Kisumu ODM tallying centre as vote count starts

Security was beefed up at the Kisumu ODM party nominations tallying centre staged at the Tom Mboya Labour College on Tuesday.

Police have barricaded roads heading to the venue only allowing the aspirants and one agent to access the centre.

Police had to lob tear gas canisters at one point to disperse supporters of various aspirants who were moving closer to where the roads were barricaded.

The centre was opened at 5 pm after nominations were concluded in the various polling stations.

The nominations were conducted in Kisumu Central, Kisumu East, Muhoroni and Nyakach for MPs position as well as senate and women representative seats.

Members of the public who could not gain access to the venue.

A majority said they will not leave the place until results are announced.
