Kenya Sevens have embarked on a two-week training camp at Moi Stadium, Kasarani as they intensify preparations for next month's  Munich Challenger Series leg.

Assistant coach Louis Kisia said they will be working on several aspects of play in the camp to ensure they are in the best shape for the final leg in Germany.

"It's an opportunity to look at our attack, defence, setpiece, kickoff reception and at the same time be in a solid environment away from the hustles and bustles of the city traffic and have serenity for the boys,” said Kisia.

This is the third camp for Shujaa having held the first camp at St Andrew's Turi in September and the second at Hillcrest in February before departing to Uruguay.

Kisia said competition for places is intense, especially from players who featured at the African Games in Ghana last month.

“Players like Cornelius Mukoro, Chrisant Ojwang and Ben Salem have impressed in training. Everyone is bringing his A-game and it will be a tough call for the final 12 who will travel to Germany," noted Kisia.

Speedstar Patrick Odongo, who missed the tournament in Uruguay with a broken jaw, is back in training and available for selection.

Kenya are joint top alongside Uruguay with 36 points and will face Chile, Portugal, and Mexico in Pool C.

The tactician said the team would take it one game at a time, “Sevens is unpredictable. The calibre of teams we are facing are good and we are not going to underestimate them,” observed Kisia.

Shujaa bagged the the opening tournament in Dubai in January beating Chile 12-5. They then won bronze in Montevideo after beating Chile 31-12 in the third and fourth playoff.

After the Munich leg, the top four teams will head to the promotion-cum -relegation playoff in Madrid on  June 1-2.

Here, they face the teams ranked 9-12 in the current Worlds Seven Series for a place in the 2024-2025 season with four teams qualifying.
