The Rugby Super Series will have a women's category when it kicks off in May.

Two teams, the Eagles and the Jaguars, were introduced in Friday's relaunch. The tournament, started in 2003, returns for the first time since 2014.

The Eagles and Jaguars will battle in a two-legged 'final' in Nairobi with the winner determined by the aggregate score.

All games on any match day will be hosted at one venue to maximize excitement for the players and the fans.

The men's category will feature Buffaloes, Cheetahs, Lions and Rhinos. The tournament will run from May 4-25.

Further details regarding the formation of team squads, coaching staff and compositions of the constituent clubs will be announced later, according to Super Series Organising Committee chairman, Aggrey Chabeda.

The men's competition will be on a round-robin format over the first three matchdays at KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka, Nakuru Athletics Club and the Bull Ring in Kakamega.

The top two teams will meet in the final while the bottom two will clash in a third-place playoff at the RFUEA grounds.

The revamped tournament aims to give Kenya Rugby Union a clear pathway for national 15s players' selection.

"We want to upgrade the participating franchises to fully-fledged professional teams within the next two years," said Chabeda.

"This will enhance the quality of competition and produce a better-prepared national XV’s side with an eye on the 2027 Rugby World Cup (in Australia),” said Chabeda.

The championship will create an environment for family entertainment thus attracting more fans.

"We envision a vibrant atmosphere filled with excitement, music and other activities for fans of all ages. We want to make the Rugby Super Series a must-attend event," he added.
