The battle for KRU Championship playoff slots hot up this weekend with five mouthwatering clashes.

Log leaders Masinde Murilo University of Science and Technology (MMUST) travel to Nairobi for a tricky tie against on-form United States University Africa’s Martials.

USIU-A are on a three-game winning streak and coach Tom Lagat says he is ready for the MMUST challenge though he admits it will be a tough tie.

“Expect a good match from both teams. I have reviewed their games. They play straight-running rugby and I will try and counter that with a tight defence. My defence must be ready for hard tackles,” said Lagat.

He said with three games to go, their chances of surviving relegation are at 80 per cent.

“This is the weekend that will determine our fate and that is why we want to halt MMUST’s good run in the league,” added Lagat.

MMUST coach John Asila said they will go all out against USIU-A. “They have been on fire after winning three games on the trot. We respect them but we are travelling to Nairobi for a win. The mood in the camp is buoyant and there are no injury worries,” said Asila.

Second-placed Daystar University Falcons will face the University of Eldoret’s Trojans while third-placed South Coast Pirates will play Kabarak University in Nakuru.

South Coast Pirates head coach Kevin Amiani remained confident of a top-two finish.“We have to win our three remaining matches against Kabarak, UOE, and USIU-A with bonus points for us to stand a chance of a home semi-final,” said Amiani.

MMUST lead the log with 29 points same as Daystar while South Coast Pirates are third with 27 points.

Western Bulls welcome the struggling University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine at the Bull Ring. Mean Machine sit bottom of the log with a paltry seven points and is in danger of relegation.

Mombasa RFC host Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology’s (JKUAT) Cougars.
