Kabras' head coach Carlos Katywa expects playmaker Jone Kubu back for the season-ending playoffs next month.

The South African tactician said Kubu has been training with the rest of the squad for the past three weeks and will be ready mid-next month.

Kubu has been ruled out since November with an ankle injury sustained in the match against Kisumu.

"We don't want to rush him. We will give him adequate time to get ready for the business end of the season,” he added.

The Fijian, who now plays for the Simbas, has been an integral part in Kabras' rise since joining them in 2015.

He played a key part in the three of their Kenya Cup titles as well as their success in the Enterprise Cup for the last decade.

Kubu's return gives Katywa a headache, especially with the form of the likes of Ntabeni Dukisa and Barry Robinson in the fly-half and fullback positions.

“His return gives me and the technical bench selection headache because the current has done a good job in the last couple of weeks. We are still unbeaten and the players are playing exceptionally well,” said Katywa

The Kakamega-based side take on third-placed Menengai Oilers, Blak Blad, and a top-of-the-table clash against KCB in the next three weeks and Katywa feels they have room for improvement despite topping the log.

“We are playing the top teams in the next couple of weeks. We have to improve our scrummaging because it's one of our strengths. In our last game against Quins, we struggled and we have to rectify it,” observed Katywa.

Elsewhere, Nondies kept their Kenya Cup playoffs intact with a 30- 10 win over Catholic Monks on Saturday.

Nyaenya Moseti was the toast for the winners with two tries as skipper Steve Odhiambo and Charles Omondi scored a try each to earn them a bonus point

Moseti added two penalties and two conversions for the win to move the side to fifth on the log with 19 points.

The match was due to have been played last month but was postponed due to an unplayable pitch in Langata.
