Shujaa lose opener to Uruguay in Toulouse sevens

The 19-5 loss extended Shujaa's miserable run in the series.

Shujaa 's miserable run in the World Sevens series continued in Toulouse when they lost 19-5 to Uruguay in their opening match on Friday at the Stade Ernest Wallon. 

 

An out-of-sorts Kenya outfit were put to the sword in the sunshine of the Southwest of France in a one-sided encounter. 

The South Americans scored three quick tries to ensure they keep their core status alive, with matches against Canada and New Zealand to come later in the weekend.

Uruguay were quick off the blocks and opened the scoring in the second minute when Baltazar Amaya touched down for 5-0 lead .

The Uruguayans dominated possession and territory and scored their second try courtesy of Mateo Vinals with Guillermo Litjenstein converting for a 12-0 lead at the interval.

On resumption, Kenya came out firing on all cylinders to cut the deficit but were hit with a sucker punch of a try when Battista Basso crossed the line with Litjenstein adding the extras for a 19-0 lead

George Ooro scored a late consolation try for Shujaa but it was too late to salvage the game for Kenya.

This was Uruguay's fourth win in five matches against Kenya after wins in Hong Kong , Vancouver and Singapore this season 

Kenya next face powerhouses and log leaders New Zealand at 7:16pm with their final preliminary game against Canada on Saturday at 1:21 pm
