Eight nations confirm participation for Barthes Cup

Kenya is hosting the tournament for the fourth year in a row, having staged the event in 2019, 2021 and 2022.

Eight countries have confirmed participation in the Rugby under-20 Barthes Cup slated for April 22-30 at Nyayo Stadium.

Champions Zimbabwe,  last year's losing finalists Namibia, hosts Kenya, and Madagascar will grace the week-long tournament.

Other teams that will be in Nairobi are—Uganda, Zambia, Tunisia and  Ivory Coast.

The championship will be played on a knockout basis and will run over three match days.  The tournament will start at the quarterfinal stage on April 22 with the semi-final on April 26 and the final on April 30.

Kenya is hosting the tournament for the fourth year in a row, having staged the event in 2019, 2021 and 2022.

The winner of the tournament will represent the continent at the World Rugby Junior Trophy in July at the same venue.

The Kenya team, under the tutelage of Curtis Olago, have been in training for the past two weeks as they seek to improve on last year's semifinal show,  where they lost to Namibia 16-5.

Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) chairman Odour Gangla said Kenya was delighted to host the tournament for the fourth year running and preparations for the tournament had started in earnest.

"Our preparations have started and we would like to thank the government for supporting this venture as we bring together the best young talent on the continent to Nairobi," added Gangla.
